NFIB Statement on Passage of Key Tort Reform Legislation

NFIB Statement on Passage of Key Tort Reform Legislation

March 21, 2025

The legislation, one of NFIB's top priorities this session, aims to stop lawsuit abuse in Georgia

NFIB State Director Hunter Loggins released the following statement today following passage of Senate Bill 68, legislation that would curb lawsuit abuse and provide stronger protections for small businesses. The measure passed the House with bipartisan support on Thursday. The Senate agreed with the House version of the bill today:

“This is a big victory for Georgia’s small businesses. Individuals have a right to seek compensation if they’ve been harmed, but many personal injury attorneys have gamed the system. Instead of going after the parties responsible, they’ve targeted whoever appears to have the deepest pockets. Many times, that’s a small business.

“Lawsuit abuse has driven up the cost of insurance and made it hard for many small businesses to focus on growth, job creation and supporting their communities. On behalf of our small business members, I want to thank the Georgia House and Senate for passing SB 68 and look forward to Governor Kemp signing it into law.”
