NFIB supports changes that make it easier to run a business in Georgia

Gov. Brian Kemp has signed several new laws to cut red tape, reduce paperwork, and make it easier for small business owners to get licensed and do business in Georgia.
One of the new laws, Senate Bill 96, will remove state boards that don’t meet or do the same work as other boards. Another, House Bill 113, will help protect state agencies by keeping track of tech companies linked to foreign governments that might be a threat.
Many of the new laws are focused on helping small business owners and workers get licensed faster and with fewer delays.
“Georgia small business owners want to spend their time running their businesses, not dealing with confusing rules,” NFIB State Director Hunter Loggins said. “These new laws help simplify the system and make it easier for Main Street businesses to grow.”
Here are some of the key changes:
  • HB 148 offers two new paths to become a certified public accountant, making it more flexible while keeping standards high.
  • HB 322 lets the Georgia Board of Dentistry issue teaching licenses to out-of-state dentists who are teaching in Georgia schools.
  • HB 579 allows faster license approvals by letting the Licensing Board’s director approve certain licenses directly.
  • HB 630 makes the licensing process simpler for used car and parts dealers, while still protecting consumers.
  • HB 635 makes licensing rules for contractors more fair and easier to understand.
  • SB 125 lets engineers and land surveyors take their licensing exams earlier and updates the rules for contractors who need continuing education.
