Small Business Owners Disappointed by Senate Inaction on Tax-Cut Plan

June 2, 2025

Meaningful tax relief would have helped Main Street deal with rising costs and uncertainty

NFIB State Director Leah Long says small business owners are disappointed that a plan to lower income and sales taxes appears to have stalled in the state Senate.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and meaningful tax relief this session would have helped them reinvest in their businesses, hire more workers, and plan for the future,” NFIB Louisiana State Director Leah Long said.

House Bill 667 would have built on tax cuts passed during last year’s special session by lowering the state’s new 3% flat income tax rate, but Senate leaders have said the bill won’t move forward this session, which ends June 12.

“Such bills would have helped ease some of the financial pressure on Main Street businesses as they deal with inflation and uncertainty over where things are heading,” Long said. “We hope the Senate will make tax relief a priority next year and give small businesses the certainty they need to succeed.”
