Take Action on Ohio Small Business Issues

April 15, 2025

Read about current legislation & how to take action for your business

The Ohio Legislature is in full swing, and committees are hearing legislation that could impact your small business. Please take action and let your legislators know how these bills will affect your ability to grow and create jobs.

Shine a Light on 3rd Party Litigation Financing

House Bill 105/Senate Bill 10 would provide much-needed transparency in third-party litigation funding. Predatory lawsuits have become big business for third-party lenders looking to cash in on speculative legal action – dragging Ohio’s small businesses into costly legal battles. Contact your state legislators and urge them to support this legislation to help level the playing field for small businesses.

Protect Employer Rights: Support Preservation of Non-Compete Clauses in Ohio

The Ohio Senate has introduced Senate Bill 11, legislation that would ban non-compete provisions or agreements an employer may require of a “worker” either at hire, during employment, or post-employment.

If passed, this would remove existing laws that allow an employer to protect their investments by restricting a current or previous employer from working for another employer for a specified time, within a geographic area, or in a capacity similar to what the worker did for that employer. It also removes provisions that protect employers from employees who may receive tuition or skilled training reimbursement, only to leave once the training is completed. Contact your State Senators and Representatives and urge them to vote NO on SB 11!

Support Voter Transparency & Simplify Ohio’s Property Tax System

House Bill 28 passed in the Ohio State House and is currently in the Ohio Senate awaiting action. This legislation aims to simplify Ohio’s property tax system, promote transparency, and avoid unintended property tax increases by eliminating replacement property tax levies. Contact your State Senator today to tell them to support HB 28 when it’s considered for a vote!
